CUBMASTER MINUTE

Dear Scout Families-

This year’s Blue & Gold Banquet is very exciting for me for a number of reasons.  As I have had the pleasure of working with most of the Webelos that are crossing over for many years, I know what outstanding character they possess and the potential they carry.  All of them have accomplished much that is worthy of acknowledgement and celebration.  They are all moving on to Troop 191, well prepared to advance as far as their drive and determination lead them.

On a personal level, after eight years in Pack 333 as a Den Leader, Assistant Cubmaster and current Cubmaster, I too will be moving on with my sons to Boy Scouts.  I have many great families to thank for their mentoring, inspiration and leadership thru this process- The Bierys, Andersons, Wagners, Boshes, Longs, Hoffmans, Pages and Baders to name a few.  They all moved on to Boy Scouts and have SIX EAGLE SCOUTS among them- to date!  The common thread among these successful scouts is the commitment and time their parents have contributed to Cub Scouting and continue to commit to Boy Scouting.  It’s a family effort, not a coincidence.

Pack 333 has a tradition of terrific leaders and volunteers assisting our boys along the way.  Today, not only will FIFTEEN Webelos be crossing over, many highly committed parents will be moving on with them.  The strength of our Pack has been our ability to evolve and grow with fresh energy and new leadership over the years.  That challenge will be carried on by the parents of our younger scouts- if you are not already doing so, now is the time to step up!

Congratulations to the Roadrunner and Cobra Patrols!  Your futures are bright on a road that you are only beginning to  explore!

Best wishes, God bless and thank you all for this privilege,

Eric Publicover, aka “Mr. P”

THANKS TO THE PUBLICOVERS!!!

Pack 333 is so strong and successful due to the great families! A perfect example of this is the Publicover family. They have loyally served in many positions within the Pack for the past 8 years. As their youngest son Kevin moves on to Boy Scouts, they will be greatly missed. Please take the opportunity to thank them for their dedication to Pack 333. They leave the Pack stronger and poised for future success!

Highlights from Webelos II (Roadrunner Patrol)

Asked to write a short note about a favorite cub scout memory, here are some responses.

Ian P. wrote: Cub scouting is fun because of all the festivities.  My favorite activity in scouts was designing cars for the Pinewood Derby with my dad.  I liked painting them and racing them.  Race day is fun because of all the hoopla!  I also liked the trip to see the Intrepid, and throwing candy in the Halloween parades.

Quinn G. wrote: My favorite memory of cub scouts was when I was a Tiger in my first Pinewood Derby Race.  It was a bright sunny day and I was very excited to race my first car.  I was very worried that my car would not be as fast as the others.  As it turned out, I won for my den.  I made it to the finals but lost in a tie breaking race against a Webelos.  Even though I lost, it felt good to win all those races.  I looked forward to the Pinewood Derby every year after that.

Josh W. wrote:   One of my favorite things I did while in cub scouts was visiting the Intrepid Museum. It was really neat to learn about the airplanes and what it was like when the USS Intrepid was at sea in the 1940's. I especially liked when we toured the inside of the ship and we saw the old controls. I enjoyed our cub scout spring trip to the Intrepid.

Archer W. wrote: My favorite thing about scouts is that there are so many opportunities you have  that normally you can’t do by yourself. Some of these things were like going to the Intrepid or having pinewood derby races. Also you can meet kids you normally do not see at school. At cub scouts you can also go camping at Akelaland and learn new things about camping and do really fun things like B.B. shooting or archery. Over the years I have done some really neat things over my five years of cub scouts and I would really recommend it to anyone that asks if they should join.
