CUBMASTER MINUTES
Hello Cub Pack 333 and parents,
With this being the 100th anniversary year of Boy Scouting, I wanted to reflect back on the beginning of scouting and the relevance this founding has to scouting today. Lord Baden-Powell originally wrote his small handbook called An Aid to Scouting because he had discovered that his newer soldiers were different due to “decades of urbanization and were not the adaptable recruits he had experienced throughout his military career.” Baden-Powell realized he needed to teach his men basic life skills, so he wrote his handbook. Mind you this was in the very early 1900’s. Baden-Powell’s book emphasized resourcefulness, adaptability, and the qualities of leadership that frontier conditions demanded. If Baden-Powell was worried about the effects of urbanization on the leadership and survival abilities of his men in 1900, imagine what he would think today? While the physical frontier no longer poses a threat to our young men, there remains a “new frontier”, one created by the technological advances of modern day society which presents very real challenges that our youngsters will face throughout their lives. The qualities of leadership, adaptability, and resourcefulness which Baden-Powell emphasized in his little handbook are more necessary today if not more-so than 100 years ago. Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting can help teach our young men the skills and help to give them the self-confidence they will need to not only survive, but to thrive in these modern times. My appeal to you as parents is to get involved with myself and the other leaders of Pack 333 so that we can educate and instill in our youngsters those qualities and skills that they will need as they go forward in life. Get involved with your sons at home to encourage their advancements within their den and within the pack. Look at scouts as a family activity that will allow you quality bonding time with your child as he learns and advances in rank. I know from my own experience working with my older son Quinn, his den leaders and the boys of his den as they progressed towards their arrow of light and the transition into boy scouting, how much these shared memories will mean to both of you in the years to come. Thank you for being a part of Pack 333, and until Fall’s Pack Tracks, Happy Scouting.

LOOKING TO GET INVOLVED AND HAVE SOME FUN ????
Pack 333 is so great because we have great boys and great parent volunteers!
We need to fill 4 key positions for 2010-2011:
1.) Pack Committee Recording Secretary- This is a new position. The duties will require:
· Attending the monthly Leaders’ Meeting (2nd Wed. of each month 7:00p.m.)
· Recording the minutes from the meeting
· Emailing these minutes to the leaders
2.) Blue & Gold CO-Chairs- In the past, we’ve only had one person chair this position; however, there is a lot of planning and coordinating. I think it would be great fun to work together and share the load. Teamwork is much more fun than doing it all by yourself! We have some GREAT notes from past successes and opportunities for improvement and there are always representatives from each den helping out too. We need to start planning for this in September, so I’m hoping many of you come forward with some great ideas and energy!!!
3.) Summer Camp Coordinator- This is the lead contact person for Resident Camp. A few key duties are:
· Reserves our place at camp (through Council)
· Submits our deposit and final payment
· Coordinates parent meeting
· Leads organization of camp equipment/food supplies/photos/costumes
· Is a trained leader
4.) Treasurer- This person is responsible for collecting and depositing all monies for the Pack, attending the monthly leaders’ meeting and reporting available funds.
Please contact Amy Waters (610) 798-7371 or archernw@msn.com for any questions or to let me know you’re ready!!!
